Not every partitioning job starts with a blank floor. Many offices need a door added to create a second exit from a room, a glazed screen extended to make a meeting room larger, or a run of old partitioning taken out to open up a floor. These jobs need the same attention to detail as new work, because the new section has to match the existing system, and removing walls can expose gaps in the ceiling grid, floor finishes and lighting that need putting right.
Removal at the end of a lease is a common trigger. Many leases require tenant alterations to be stripped out and the space returned to the original condition, and leaving it to the last few weeks often costs more. Before any wall comes out in an older building, the presence of asbestos should be checked against the building's asbestos register or a refurbishment survey, and any changes to escape routes or fire separation reviewed against the fire risk assessment.
